Wildcat Formation: November Nastiness Edition PowercatRyan November 7, 2014 Features, Wildcat Formation Fridays at The Salute Did you miss Selection Sunday? The field of 64 has been set, no play-in games for college football just gritty hard fought battles every week. Each game acts as natural selection toward the college football’s Final Four. Call me crazy, most people do, but I call this week the opening round of the inaugural college football play-offs, especially for Kansas State. Give me a minute to explain, Kansas State has played eight game to a 7-1 record. Their only loss is to a top five, 7-1 Auburn squad in Manhattan. So begins the tournament and Kansas State’s first opponent is sixth ranked TCU at Fort Worth. I like the ‘Cats chances in this one. The defense may be lacking a headliner, but their on-field performance is best in the Big 12. On the other hand, TCU doesn’t have the same defense they have been known for during their early Big 12 play. They have given up an average of 32 points per Big 12 contest, including 61 to Baylor. The Cats then move on to play in the round of 32 and face West Virginia in Morgantown. This will be a very difficult contest. I am confident in Kansas State’s chances for a win, but Thursday night in Morgantown will be a tough atmosphere to play in. A loss here and the Wildcats chances go up in couch flames. On to the Sweet Sixteen and Kansas State faces a foe that is very familiar with this round of the tournament, Kansas. Let’s be honest, KU fans have moved on to basketball so they should be able to understand the analogy between the football and basketball tournaments. I don’t know how the Jayhawks get a chance to play spoiler, but every tournament needs a Cinderella, but the clock will strike midnight a few hours early when the Wildcats put this one away. Whew! Now on to the Elite Eight and this opponent is the defending Big 12 Champion Baylor. Yeah, that same Baylor team that knocked the Wildcats out of the 2012 National Title hunt two years ago. Winning this game is not only revenge for that game, but also catapults the 2014 Kansas State team into the Final Four. The real College Football Playoffs. This is where the real fun begins. It’s almost as historic as being the first man to put a foot print on the moon. What getting into these playoffs means is still unknown. It would mean so much more the Kansas State than it would to an Alabama, Oregon or a Florida State. This is the prize that awaits this team if they can navigate through a brutal four game stretch (excluding the bye during week 3). Let the games begin!
