Where do we stand? What have we accomplished? Where are we now? And more importantly, where are we heading?

Nobody will deny the great publicity and the momentum “3MAW” brought to Kansas State and the athletic department, but where did it all go? Football was upset by North Dakota State. Men’s basketball was surprised by Northern Colorado. The baseball team has yet to find it’s dominant stride from a year ago.

Now I don’t know where we stand going into spring football and the promising future of the young freshman from the basketball team. Do I dare fall into the same trap that caught me last summer?

That leads me to my next question. Can next year’s football and basketball team match the win total from “3MAW”? If not, how close can they get? During the 2012-2013 campaign the two teams combined for 38 wins. Just for comparison’s sake, this season’s total was 28.

Can these two teams make a 10 game improvement? Just three more wins from the football team and seven more from the hoops team match it. I would say that there were probably ten games that I really felt could have gone either way over the course of both team’s season.

So how close were we to something really special? Maybe we weren’t Big 12 championship caliber in either sport, but how far were we really? How do we measure success?

The 2012-2013 athletic year ended the same way the 2013-2014 seasons started, with disappointments. A Fiesta Bowl loss and and early NCAA exit. Beating Michigan in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl almost felt like a spring board into this spring. The way the freshman played all season long launched the future of the Men’s program under Bruce Weber.

So again, where do we stand? What have we accomplished? Where are we now? And more importantly, where are we heading?
