I’m truly blown away right now! This football season is starting off in a way that I would’ve never imagined. From the 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown from Morgan Burns, to a season-ending injury to Jesse Ertz after playing only two snaps, to the halftime “Band-Gate Controversy”, to a total shutout of 34-0. What a start!

It’s hard not to address the elephant in the room; as the saying goes, there’s no such thing as bad publicity. Some say there’s absolutely no way Saturday’s halftime performance of the “Starship Enterprise” was an accident, others say there’s no way it was on purpose; good news, we’re all entitled to our own opinion. Either way, the band is coming out on top and getting the attention they deserve.

Our band is beyond outstanding! If you didn’t know that then you’re probably living in the dark. They are one of the best in the entire country! Have you heard about the Sudler Trophy?

This entire situation has once again shown how much our university bands together as a family to support one another. As I write this, the Wildcat nation has already donated more than $9,000 to this <#StandWithDT> GoFundMe account for the band in less than 24 hours. It’s no secret, our economy is struggling right now and many programs at our university are struggling to maintain funding. Somehow, this situation has turned into a way for us to give back to a program that spends hours practicing each day just to represent the pride of our university. Attending sporting events at K-State would not be the same without our incredible band.

Whether or not you agree with the performance, most of you are still behind our band and university 100%. That’s what family does; they provide unconditional love and support.

This isn’t the first time we’ve rallied together for a cause and it won’t be the last time. Next week, I’ll be featuring one of the toughest members of our Wildcat Family. The support that’s been shown to Kaiden Schroeder makes me proud to be a Wildcat every second of every day.

Today, find one way to show your support for the band. Send an e-mail to Dr. Tracz ftracz@ksu.edu , tweet the band at @KStatePride , send a message or post to the Facebook wall at K-State Marching Band, or donate a few bucks to the #StandWithDT GoFundMe. K-State President Kirk Shulz says that the Office of the President will be taking care of the $5,000 fine and any money raised will go directly to the band.

Continue to show your support!
