k-state vs oklahoma

Another slow start, and another strong finish for the Wildcats.  Bramlage still doesn’t seem as loud as it has been in previous years, and there was no clear opportunity to play Sandstorm, but Big XII basketball is back in Manhattan, and it’s a great place to be.  I can’t wait to see what the atmosphere is like on Tuesday against you know who.

  • The motion offense continues to look more fluid.  Guys are getting in the spots and being patient for the open shots.  The only time that seems to consistently break down is when JO gets the ball in his hands.  It seems that he isn’t grasping the offense, but he’s indispensable when it comes to defense and rebounding.  As of yesterday he’s accounted for 45% of the teams blocks.
  • Angel Rodriguez had 12 points, but more importantly, 9 assists.  That’s his career high, and he only had 1 turnover to go with those.
  • Rodney McGruder was the leading scorer yet again with 20, but they were a streaky 20 points.  At times it looked like he struggled to get involved, and then suddenly broke through scoring 11 points in a span of about 2 minutes, which included three 3s in a row.  He lead the way in a 14-4 run that ended the first half.
  • Rodney played all 40 minutes of the game yesterday.
  • Postgame quote of the week:
    Senior Forward Rodney McGruder
    On K-State’s performance…

“We were just ready to play. You see guys’ mentality change around the locker room. We are really focused and everyone is really buying into what coach is saying. When that happens, we can be really good and that is what we are doing. Just from a mental aspect, everyone is buying in.”

  • Opponent quote of the week:
    Oklahoma Head Coach Lon Kruger
    On K-State’s efficiency…

“They played better than we did, and that is the way it works. I thought they ran their stuff more efficiently than we did. Again, their defense was a big factor in us not executing as well as we wanted to on the half court. They made three’s, and we did not for the most part. So, when you play a top-ranked team in the country you need to play better than we did to win, and we did not play at that level.”

  • Did you guys know we play kU on Tuesday?  That means it’s #IHateKU week.  We’ll be watching that hashtag to pick a kU Tweet of the Week in addition to our standard #KState Tweet of the Week.
