Sunday Seconds: Owning Texas? Yeah, they know. Mike Tufano February 24, 2013 Sunday Seconds Chants of “we own Texas” are mostly just yawns these days. K-State is now 12-3 in football and men’s basketball since 2006. It’s pretty much just 2nd nature at this point. Notable in numbers from yesterday’s win: Bruce Weber passed Bob Huggins for most wins by a 1st year coach at K-State. Of course, Bruce had a lot more to work with coming in than Huggins did, but 22 wins with 4 games to play is nothing to be apologizing for under any circumstances. It’s not like this is a team that you or I could have come in and coached to 22 wins (and most likely not one Frank Martin would have coached to 22 wins at this point). More notable numbers: K-State has 11 conference wins for the first time since the 09-10 season. That’s pretty legit, given that team made it to the Elite 8. And oh yeah, this team still has 4 regular season games to go… only two of which even fit the description of “loseable.” Post game quote of the week: Sophomore Angel Rodriguez We’re trying to win a championship you know? We’ve got to play at a high level. We’ve still got a couple of games. If we keep doing what we do, we should be all right. kU managed to finally get that elusive win against their nemesis, TCU yesterday. That means going into Monday we’re still tied at the top with 4 games to play. You know Texas has to hate K-State. We’re the thorn in the side of the yellow rose in a conference that’s always supposed to roll over for the big and mighty Horns. But as they continue to recruit massive amounts of athleticism in both football and basketball, they can’t help but underachieve whatever they do. Opponent post game quote of week: Texas Coach Rick Barnes Who’s in? If guys check out, decisions will be made. Last Monday’s attendance was rough for the game against West Virginia How much worse will it be tomorrow? It’s tough to get to Manhattan by 6 for out of towners, and even tougher in the midst of a huge forecasted snowstorm. I don’t know about you. I’ll be there if I can, but sadly, this may be one of those days it’s better to cancel the trip.
