Right on Kimball: K-State vs Auburn Seth September 18, 2014 Features, Right on Kimball This is my first “Right on Kimball” post. K-State lost. I should never do this post ever again. Yes, I am a very superstitious fan. What I liked: The defense. Auburn scores more often than the most popular guy in your high school. K-State held them to 20 points and got little to no help from the offense. The Wildcat defense held the vaunted Auburn running game in check all game. The crowd and the Harleys. It was loud. Really loud. I wish I could’ve been there. I love Harley Day and I don’t even ride a motorcycle. Going for it on 4th and 1 in K-State territory in the 1st quarter. It didn’t result in points but I love the call. It showed the urgency of this game. It was a must-win game in Septemtber. Curry F. Sexton. On the podcast this week I asked about who would have a breakout game. I assumed it would be a defensive player. Although, Danzel McDaniel was a beast at stopping the run, the player that surprised me most was Curry Sexton. The senior from Abilene ended the day with 11 catches for 121 yards. Lockett: Tyler’s punt punt returns were great (23+ yards per return), answering some questions we had about the special teams. Also, the game plan had him involved early and often. He is the Wildcats best player. He needs the ball. Also, the double coverage he saw gave Sexton all the opportunities he saw throughout the game. What I didn’t like: Opening kickoff: You had one job!!! Ian Patterson, you booted the ball out of bounds! A huge momentum killer right out of the gate. Turnovers and non-turnovers. The Jake Waters/DeMarcus Robinson butt fumble and the Lockett drop/turned INT. Wow! Those were both killers! Also, the Auburn punt snapped over the head of the punter should’ve been a huge turnover. That was a non-turnover that should’ve set up the Cats deep in Tigers territorry. Then there’s Marshall’s dropped the ball in the 4th quarter that the Cats didn’t recover. Also, Jake Water’s legitimately bad interception in the 2nd half. Turnovers are K-State’s thing and it went against them. Jack Cantele. If you saw the tweet, I went “Three Amigos” on him. That’s right. I called him a “son of a motherless goat.” Missing from plus 40 is kinda excusable. Missing from 22??? Uh, no. I know he’s a good kicker, but not on this night. We need him to be good if we want to win tight conference games. 14. We should’ve had way more than 14 points!!!!!!! 19 points. Jesse Palmer said we gave away 19 points. That guy is dumb and he saw how much K-State gave away this game. Overall, it was a frustrating game. It was one that K-State should’ve won but didn’t and that’s heart-breaking. However, the Cats have a winnable game against UTEP and then they can take aim at a Big 12 title. Even with the loss the season is far from over. Go Cats!
