Right on Kimball: K-State vs Oklahoma State Dara Bitler October 3, 2015 Right on Kimball My hope was that this game would be the first time in the last 5 trips that we could get a win in Stillwater. Unfortunately, for the 5th straight trip, the Cats fall in Stillwater. When I saw Joe Hubener go down, I thought that we were doomed. But, Kody Cook was the next man up and my goodness! He looked good! What I liked: Jordan Willis extra point blocked in the 2nd quarter. He’s a beast! Pick in the 4th by Will Davis. Great stop for momentum. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn into points. Special Teams!!! Kody Cook! Absolutely incredible work coming in as a WR and playing QB. I wold love to see him starting another game. He finished 10-16, 122 yards, and 2 TD’s in the air and 21 carries, 87 yards, and 1 TD on the ground. Hubener to Jones for 72 yards with a little more than 4:00 left in the game. WHAT A PLAY! And, Hubener to the end zone to give us the one-point lead in the 4th with 3:00 left. We only had one turnover in the game. Unfortunately, it was during a crucial spot in the game. What I didn’t like: I didn’t like the no-call on the Joe Hubener hit during the first call of the game. Our defense really struggled on the opening drive, letting Ok. St. run it down the field. Joe Hubener’s first drive coming back into the game was scary. If you’re going to take a sack, throw the ball away. At the same time, the offensive line definitely needs some work. We had an intentional grounding call and a 14-yard sack. We really struggled on both sides of the ball during the second half. It wasn’t pretty. Our pass coverage was absolutely atrocious! And, our defense couldn’t wrap up a tackle. Missed 2-point conversion in the 4th. Hubener’s interception with :16 left in the game. Well, if I would’ve made a prediction for this game, it would’ve been wrong! Kody Cook moved the ball in a way that Joe Hubener hasn’t done all season. Our defense and offensive line need serious work. Losing is tough, especially in the Big 12 opener. But, we’re not done yet. On to the next one….which won’t be easier…TCU.
