I’m feeling much better this week about the basketball team, especially after the win against Oklahoma! With the being said, we have a long road ahead. As a fan, we love our team through the ups and downs.

I’ve been thinking a lot this week about some of my insane fan moments over the years. If you bleed purple like I do, then you know it’s really easy to go crazy about K-State! From the clothes you wear, to the tags on your car, and even the utensils used in the kitchen, everything is purple.

Wednesdays at The Salute

During my first year at K-State, I spent my breaks in between classes going to Varney’s to get things I “needed”. I guess I became a broke college student spending every extra dollar I had on K-State stuff. I bought t-shirts, socks, shoes, car decals, hair accessories, jewelry, powercat tattoos, posters, and anything else I could get my hands on. That’s when the insanity began…but from there, it only got worse.

Every day was like game day for me when I went to class. I’m sure some people thought I was strange. When you love something, it’s hard not to let it show. And boy did I let it show!

One of my craziest fan moments was when I waited in line for over 8 hours for a basketball game at Bramlage to get on the front row. Many people in line called me the “snuggie girl”. Here’s some advice, if you’re going to spend that much time outside in the cold, a K-State Snuggie is an aboslute must! I even sported a ridiculous hat to go with the snuggie. I can hardly remember a time in my life when I had more fun. There’s also not much that beats being in the front row of a game at Bramlage…you can almost feel the sweat fly off of players as the run by!

Another insane moment was when we beat KU on Valentine’s Day back in 2011. We didn’t just beat them, we STOMPED them 84-68. That was one of the most exciting nights of my life. As soon as the game was over, car horns were blasting, fireworks were going off, and cars were flooding the streets to rush to Aggieville. Once I made to Aggieville, the cops had the streets blocked off. Everyone was jumping up and down, screaming, chanting “KSU, KSU, KSU”. I even remember hugging and high-fiving students I didn’t even know. It was incredibly amazing! The next morning I actually made it to class because I wanted to dress up in my purple gear and celebrate with classmates. Hopefully, some of you reading this can have this type of moment next week. It’s time to take down KU!!!!!

Another moment in time that I will never forget is our run to the Elite 8 in 2010. When the tournament started, I put on what I called my “lucky” t-shirt. I also had this strange K-State bracelet that I wore. First, we made it past North Texas. Then, we knocked off BYU. The Sweet 16 game against Xavier is still my favorite game to this day. We won a double-overtime thriller 101-96. While we were on this run, I never washed my t-shirt and I wore every single game day. I also never took off that strange bracelet. (I’m not superstitious) Unfortunately, all good runs must come to an end. I’m still bitter about losing to Butler.

I could probably go on and on about my moments of being an insane fan. There’s nothing better in the world than sharing them with the biggest and best family in the country!
