Episode 137 Superlatives TheSalute September 30, 2014 Overtime, Superlatives Listen to Episode Ahearn: Run Stoppers The Salute Hall of Fame Mike Ahearn (1904-11, 1920-47) There’s no question that Mike Ahearn’s name is well known at K-State, between the Mike Ahearn Scholarship Fund, and Ahearn Field House, but not everyone knows why. Fewer probably realize that he’s one of a very small handful of coaches with a higher winning percentage at K-State than Bill Snyder. He was a three sport coach, with winning records in all three sports, and went on to be the athletic director for 27 years at Kansas State. As if that wasn’t enough, Ahearn was also a professor and the head of the Department of Physical Education at K-State. As a former collegiate hockey player, it was too bad the Wildcats didn’t have a team. He would have ended up with a winning record in it, too. He also won 2 conference titles in the KCAC in 1909 and 1910. Head Coaching records Football: 39-12 (1905-1910) Basketball: 28-27 (1906-1911) Baseball: 90-35-12 (1904-1910) EMAWard The EMAWard is driven by Manhattan Motors K-State hasn’t gotten the run game going this year in quite the way we’re used to, but Charles Jones has had a ton of bright moments. And a lot of them have been touchdowns. 3. That’s the number this week. That pushes his season number to 8 touchdowns… all from the wildcat formation. That was part of a 12 carry, 76 yard day as he continued to split time with DeMarcus Robinson. Congratulations Charles! #KState Tweet of the Week Do you think the @Big12Conference will make our statue of Bill Snyder change his windbreaker too?!? — Ryan (@ryanpeteKSU) September 28, 2014 See a tweet worthy of #KState Tweet of the Week?
