We’ve all heard the saying “Go until the final whistle blows”. But what happens beyond the whistle, is where the true test begins. It will challenge you, shape you, and it will make you question everything you thought you knew. The outcome, well,  it’s whatever you want it to be!

On Saturday, we start Big 12 play against Oklahoma State. This season has been everything I never expected so far. We have a young team that’s managed to find a way to win 3 games to this point. That alone is a pretty good accomplishment.

Games in conference play are going to be on a completely different level, especially with the strength of the conference this year. This team is going to have to learn to play beyond the whistle.  Not only will it take 110% during practices and games, it’s going to take 110% at all times. In order to be successful, you have to get your mind right, work hard and stay focused. Being great at something takes just as much physical strength as it does mental strength.

The last 4 trips to Stillwater have resulted in losses; All 4 losses have come by a touchdown or less. One game that sticks out in my mind more than most was in 2011, I got to go with the Wildcats Forever group. WHAT A GAME!! With 3:18 left in the game, we scored a TD to take a 45-44 lead. Then, OK St. marched it down the field to take a 52-45 lead. We got the ball back at the OK St. 40  with 2:16 to go. The final play of the game ended on the 5 yard line. It was one of the most thrilling games I can ever remember being at.

It’s time for redemption in Stillwater. Is this the team I think could do it? Well, it’s going to be tough and they’re going to have to play beyond the whistle to do it, but anything is possible!

BRING ON THE CATS!!!
